Tascam DR-05 vs Zoom h1 Test and Review - DSLR FILM NOOB

www.dslrfilmnoob.com The Tascam DR-05 was released a few weeks ago as direct competition to the ZOOM H1. Both units are priced at $99. The audio tests ended up quit close, with the DR-05 having a little more low end then the Zoom h1. The Tascam DR-05 has a number of features that the Zoom H1 is missing including power for an external mic, the ability to edit audio tracks, and instrument tuner. If you need some of these features the Tascam DR-05 might be a better way to go. On the other hand the Zoom h1 is smaller and lighter then the DR-05 which might end up making the difference. Both units are made out of plastic, but the build quality on the Tascam DR-05 still feels better. The covers fit very snug and the buttons are very responsive. The Zoom H1, on the other hand, feels very plastic, the battery cover is loose, and the buttons are small, providing little to no tactile response. I miss spoke in the video, the Zoom H1 does have a built in speaker. It's just so small I never noticed it. Some have also glued a peace of rubber to the Zoom H1's battery door to fix the rattle. The Tascam DR-05 also includes a 2gb micro SD card vs the Zoom's 1gb micro SD card. In the end the question becomes, do you need the features? or the form factor? For many people I think the form factor might win out. Equipment used in this video: Canon t2i & 7d Canon 35mm F1.4 Sigma 30mm f1.4 Zoom h1 Tascam DR-05 Sennheiser g2 wireless mic CPM FILM TOOLS RIG
