Rode Videomic & Videomic Pro Audio Test +20dB

Here's the first video I did comparing them www.youtube.com For this test I decided to try what rode advised and set the gain to +20db on the back of the Videomic Pro (VWP) and turn down the levels l in the camera to 4 notches from the bottom. And for the Videomic (VM) I set that to normal settings and adjusted the levels to peak at about 12dB. This does mean, however, that for each test the levels in the camera where different for each mic. But to do a fair test to the VMP it is best to use the suggested settings from the manufacturer with the Canon 5D so you can get the best out of the cameras far from perfect l in-built audio. Listen and let me know what you think. From my own conclusions there is quite a difference. I recommend you turn up the volume up on your computer/tv to compare the two. There is a distinct loudness and hiss to the VP but that has disappeared from the VMP, albeit making the VMP much quieter. I'm still not sure that benefit warrants such a difference in price between the two but for some people it may be the clincher plus it is so small and easier to carry around than the VM. Roadtrip USA Canon 550D + Sigma 18-200mm

Hi again! Earlier this year, I went to California in USA, and brought with me my Canon EOS 550D/rebel t2i. I didn't want to carry around a lot of lenses on my vacation, so I borrowed my friends Sigma 18-200mm f3.5-4.5 with an image stabilization. I used only this lens for the whole trip, and it worked very well. For shooting documentations, vacation videos, travel videos and so, without spending to much money, the Canon 550D with a Sigma 18-200mm lens is perfect. I shot the whole video handheld, and since this lens has image stabilization, it prevented me from getting very shaky footage (unfortunately I forgot to turn it on sometimes in this video). We spent 10 days on Vancouver. Most of that time was spent in one of my favorite places, Barkley Sound. It's an area with 150 islands in a 5 mile radius. We canoed from one island to the next, camping on them. On a technical side, it was all shot on the Canon 5D Mark II. Most of the shots were done with the Canon 16-35mm 2.8 L Series. A Nikon 50mm 1.8 adapter, and a Nikon 70-200 2.8 with Canon/Nikon lens adapter. The smooth shots were done with a glidecam 2000. You can check out the exact model on their official website here where you can also buy them. www.glidecam.com I had my tripod as well, with several shots handheld, with a "smooth cam" filter applied to it with Final Cut pro.

Formula Drift made its yearly stop in Sonoma, California last weekend. I've been looking forward to this event, simply because I live less than an hour away and I had a guaranteed bed to sleep in. However, the weekend was not without snags. Upon my arrival, I found that I was not on the list for media, since KP Race and Victor Moore were unable to make it to Sonoma -- this rendered my credentials were void. Therefore, I made the best of my bad luck and decided that if I couldn't get the really close action shots, I would take a few steps back and shoot a different perspective. The next morning, I drove down to Borrowed Lenses in San Carlos and rented a tilt-shift lens. Over the past few months, my interest in these lenses has grown quite a bit and when I saw Mister Geoff Pitts from Thunder Drift taking photos with one at Formula D Las Vegas, I knew I had to try it.
