This time it headed for China and to the booming economic metropolis of Shanghai, the pearl of the Orient! The port of Shanghai, with a population of about 20 million, is the industrial capital of the People´s Republic of China. In the centre of the hustle and bustle of Shanghai´s business world we find our way to the exclusive Times Square shopping centre with over 200 different renowned shops and boutiques. The Marktredwitz´ Nativity Scene arrived in Times Square by airfreight from Germany. The Flügel family, together with Franconian friends living in Shanghai, assembled and arranged the nativity scene with love and care. This time, the centre of the nativity scene showed the Schloß Neuschwanstein surrounded by impressions of Upper-Bavaria. The Marktredwitz´ Landscape Nativity Scenes were developed around 1870. The people of the Fichtelgebirge expressed their longing for the alps by depicting various Upper-Bavarian scenes, which they named "Stickla". Every year, between 26. December and 6. January, thousands of people from all over visit more than 20 different nativity scenes scattered throughout Marktredwitz.
