D-3100 - NIKON - Swan Falls, Idaho - Christmas Day, 2010
This video is the first thing I shot with my new Nikon D-3100 in movie mode. It replaces my D-5000 that had developed a very bad hot pixel. The video here was shot 1080p 24fps. No alteration to the video has been done. This is straight off of the camera. This is how it looks without touch up, motion tracking or rolling shutter correction. The 1080p at 24fps is very cool but shows off the rolling shutter even more than the 720. 10min recording time is great improvement over the 5000. The auto-focus in live view is useless. I was really looking forward to this feature but it works so poorly that I never use it. The live view lcd is bigger than the D-5000 but I really miss the flip screen. When I first got the D-5000 I thought the flip screen was kind of gimicky but I grew to use and find it a great feature. Know I think it may be more important than auto-focus. The sound is the same. It is good enough for reference and I am happy with it. I am amazed at all the people who think that high quality sound on their DSLR is big deal. Even when I shoot with professional video cameras I always record sound with a separate unit. It works better, has a higher quality sound, and provides more options for editing. To me having a sound recorder on a camera seems like having a refrigerator in your sports car. The music is just something I put together for this video. My poor old piano is going a bit out of tune :(
